TRICARE is the name of the Department of Defenses medical program for active duty,
and retirees plus their families or other dependents. It is a good idea to learn
about the program and its three choices. As you may know, TRICARE replaced the old

TRICARE For Life (TFL) is TRICARE's Medicare-wraparound coverage available to all
Medicare-eligible TRICARE beneficiaries, regardless of age, provided they have Medicare

The Department of Defense in April 2005 implemented TRICARE Reserve Select (TRS).
TRS is a premium-based health care plan available for purchase by certain eligible
members of the National Guard and Reserve who have been activated for a contingency
operation on or after September 11, 2001. TRS will provide comprehensive health
care coverage similar to TRICARE Standard and Extra for TRS members and their covered

Is your DEERS information up to date? Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting Systems
is a computerized database of military sponsors, families and others worldwide who
are entitled under the law to TRICARE benefits. DEERS registration is required for
TRICARE eligibility. Once registered in DEERS it is important to keep your DEERS
records updated when personal eligibility information changes. This includes changes
in military career status; addresses; and family status (marriage, divorce, birth,
and adoption. Mistakes in the database can cause problems with any of your claims.
